SQL Server workloads enjoy the benefits of newer software and hardware. In our new experiment, we increased both intensity and concurrency of the test workloads to utilize Windows 2008R2 and SLAT support in the processor. Our experiment also includes business intelligence workload using SQL Analysis Services. Our tests demonstrate Hyper-V provides the performance and scalability needed to run SQL Server workloads in consolidation scenarios. As an example, the following diagram compares OLTP workload performance of 8 stacked native instances and 8 stack virtual instances.
